LIMESTONE HOUSE
THE PROJECT
The Limestone House Takeover project gives the students the opportunity to take over the charity shop and cafe at Limestone House in Cresswell for a day. The students receive training at school before visiting the shop and cafe and then finally returning for the take over day. The aim of the project is to give the students real world work experience and enhance their knowledge of jobs and careers.

THE TRAINING
The students received training at school around types of jobs, practical sessions on creating displays, serving in a cafe and shop keeper role playing. The students then looked at their own strengths and matched them up with some of the jobs on offer in the shop and cafe for take over day.

THE VISIT
Visiting Limestone House before the take over day enabled the students to get more of a feel for the layout and workings of the place. They were taken on a tour by Julie who runs Limestone House, and were able to see the particular places and tasks that their chosen job would entail.

THE TAKEOVER DAY
Name badges done, smart attire on, the students were finally ready to take over. They integrated seamlessly with the staff of Limestone House to help run a well oiled machine for the day, which included a very busy cafe and plenty of customers in the shop.

The students had taken on a variety of roles including hospitality, meeting and greeting, cafe waiter service, till and sales, displays, stock keeping and graphic design.
All of the customers went away happy and at the end of the day all of the staff were sorry to see the students go. A job well done!
THE CELEBRATION
Back in school, the red carpet was rolled out of the students to celebrate their achievements on the Limestone House project.

Parents, carers and guests were invited to witness the students walking triumphantly down the red carpet to receive their certificates of achievement. There were also speeches, a photo slideshow and film of the students in action, plus balloons, snacks and cake!
THE FILM
A film was created to capture the project, which helps show the students journey along their Limestone House path to a better understanding of jobs, careers and what it is like to work in and run a charity shop and cafe.
